A Mexican social activist fearing for his life seeks asylum in the U.S. He finds illegal work on a Vermont dairy farm alongside other undocumented workers. Here he learns that their ambiguous status leaves them vulnerable to the injustice, abuse and cruelty they were escaping from.

While researching his character of Sandro for a television series, Christian de la Cortina, a Québécois actor of Chilean origin, forms a friendship with Omar, a seasonal Guatemalan worker. Gradually, Omar confides in him about the abuses he endured on a dairy farm in the Lanaudière region. Christian embarks on a quest to better understand the underlying reasons behind the problems faced by his friend and colleagues.

Through Omar's lived experiences, the documentary sheds light on a system primarily designed to serve the interests of Canadian employers at the expense of thousands of foreign workers, whose living and working conditions are sometimes deplorable, and whose rights are often violated.

We will also discover that even though a code of silence still exists in our fields, each of us can contribute in our own way to bring justice and respect to these workers.

Salvador Torres works for a corrupt gold mine in the Atacama Desert. He covers up the mine’s crimes and environmental abuses in exchange for money, and covers his own pain over the loss of his parents with alcohol. When his coworker, Alejandro is murdered for being an activist, Salvador’s life changes. He discovers Alejandro’s young daughter hiding. She has with her stolen, classified papers that expose the mine’s criminal activities and environmental abuses, including the truth about Salvador’s own parents. In his effort to help the girl escape to safety across the desert, Salvador confronts the mine that he has spent his life protecting. The journey will be his own salvation.
